The Washington Redskins held a national press conference on October 2, 2007 to launch the NFL ATLAS & ATHENA Schools Program. Distinguished speakers included NFL Vice President of Player and Employee Development, Hall of Famer Michael Haynes, #20 Pierson Prioleau (S) and #6 Shaun Suisham (K) of the Washington Redskins, Congressman Tom Davis' Press Secretary Brian Nichols and Dr. Linn Goldberg from Oregon Health & Science University.
All participating NFL ATLAS & ATHENA Schools began the ATLAS and ATHENA programs with their sport teams during the 2007-08 sport seasons.
About NFL Youth Football Fund
Established in 1998 by the NFL and NFLPA, the NFL Youth Football Fund uses football as a catalyst to promote positive youth development, support youth and high school football needs nationwide and also ensure the health of grassroots football in future generations. The YFF has worked to develop youth football initiatives and support programs, providing youngsters with opportunities to learn the game of football, get physically fit and stay involved in productive after-school activities with adult mentors.
